Nigeria has no immediate plans to seek financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has said.
Speaking at the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, Edun stated that ongoing domestic economic reforms are yielding results and strengthening the country’s resilience against global shocks.
He noted that Nigeria has focused on market-driven policies, particularly in foreign exchange and petroleum pricing, avoiding administrative controls.
According to him, the reforms have restored policy credibility and enabled smoother economic adjustments, sustaining the nation’s macroeconomic stability.
Despite ruling out immediate IMF support for Nigeria, Edun called for faster and coordinated financial assistance for other African countries, many of which remain vulnerable to economic pressures.
