Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Fubara said his decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with family, friends, and political associates.
He explained that he stepped aside in the interest of peace, stability, and unity in Rivers State, stressing that personal ambition must give way to the greater good of the state.
Fubara thanked his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging that many would feel disappointed by the decision.
The governor hinted at political pressure behind the scenes, saying some issues were better left unsaid for the sake of peace and restraint.
He also appreciated the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their support and encouragement.
Fubara maintained that his withdrawal should not be seen as an act of weakness or surrender, but as a sacrifice aimed at allowing Rivers State to move forward peacefully.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
