ADC Accuses Tinubu of Early Campaigning Despite Security Emergency

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of launching an early 2027 re-election campaign while the country faces a worsening security crisis.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC condemned reports that the President distributed branded Hilux trucks, Land Cruisers and Hummer buses to political mobilisers under the “Renewed Hope Ambassadors” nationwide.

The party said the move violates INEC’s campaign timetable and distracts from the national security emergency declared by the President.

According to Abdullahi, the development raises doubts about the government’s seriousness in tackling escalating insecurity that has left many Nigerians kidnapped, displaced, or living in fear.

The ADC criticised the administration for continuing “business-as-usual” political activities despite the crisis, insisting that true emergency leadership requires discipline, heightened security measures, and clear focus.

It argued that Tinubu is the first Nigerian President to declare a national security emergency while allegedly beginning a re-election drive at the same time — a situation the party described as troubling.

The party urged INEC to take firm action on what it called “clear violations of electoral regulations,” stressing that a President cannot act as both crisis manager and active campaigner simultaneously.

The ADC called on Tinubu to recommit to tackling insecurity or admit that political ambition is overshadowing governance.
