Imo Government Orders 72-Hour Crackdown on Tinted Commercial Buses Over Security Concerns

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has clarified that the recent 72-hour ultimatum given to operators of tinted commercial buses stems from credible intelligence linking such vehicles to criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwuike Nwachukwu, the governor said the directive was issued in response to growing concerns over the use of tinted vehicles by criminal elements operating under the guise of commercial transporters.

“The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved a clampdown on all commercial vehicles with tinted windows, following intelligence reports linking many of them to criminal activities,” the statement read. “These vehicles have increasingly been associated with incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run operations.”

The directive, issued Wednesday night, gives affected operators a 72-hour window to remove tinted windows from their vehicles or face legal consequences.

To ensure strict enforcement, Governor Uzodimma has instructed security agencies to collaborate with relevant government officials to implement the order. Any operator found in violation after the deadline will be subject to prosecution.
