Gbajabiamila: I Nearly Lost My Job Over Desmond Elliot During Lagos Assembly Crisis

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he almost lost his position during the political crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly involving former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Speaking at a constituency stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, Gbajabiamila said President Bola Tinubu summoned him to Abuja over allegations linking lawmaker Desmond Elliot to efforts to destabilise the Assembly.

According to him, the President questioned him about Elliot’s alleged involvement in the crisis because of their close relationship.

Gbajabiamila said he defended the Surulere lawmaker, insisting Elliot was not part of those working against the Assembly leadership. He added that he later warned Elliot to stay away from the crisis if he had any involvement.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives also disclosed that reports later emerged accusing him of backing impeachment moves through Elliot.

He said he instructed Elliot to publicly deny involvement in the alleged plot, but claimed the lawmaker never did so.

Gbajabiamila added that his long-standing relationship with President Tinubu ultimately saved his job as Chief of Staff.
