ADC Crisis Deepens as Okonkwo Alleges Plot to Undermine Party Ahead of 2027

A leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified, with chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo alleging a deliberate plot to destabilise the party before the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo insisted that the leadership recognised by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by David Mark, remains valid, arguing that court directives to maintain status quo support their position. He warned against attempts to pressure INEC and urged parties to allow the court to decide.

However, Acting National Publicity Secretary Bashir Abdul-Mohammed described the crisis as self-inflicted, maintaining that Nafiu Bala is the rightful acting chairman based on the party’s constitution. He accused INEC of disobeying court orders and threatened legal action.

Both factions continue to trade accusations over legitimacy as the dispute heads to court, raising concerns over the party’s stability ahead of 2027.
