PDP Crisis: Return to Party Mainstream, Makinde Group Urges Wike Allies

A support group loyal to Seyi Makinde has called on allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to return to the mainstream leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to promote unity and reconciliation.

The group, known as the Seyi Makinde Disciples, made the appeal through its convener, Laja Adeoye, during an interview in Lagos. Adeoye said the party remained open to reconciliation and expressed confidence that the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP would soon be resolved.

He urged members of the factional caretaker committee led by Mohammed Abdurahman and Senator Samuel Nwanyanwu to embrace peace and reintegrate into the party structure recognised by the PDP constitution.

According to him, the caretaker committee is not recognised by the party’s constitution or the law, and members of the Wike camp now have the opportunity to return to the party and work with other leaders to rebuild unity.

Adeoye noted that the recent ruling of the Court of Appeal (Nigeria) sitting in Ibadan had encouraged party leaders to intensify reconciliation efforts.

The court upheld an earlier judgement by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025. The convention had produced a National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki.

The appellate court also upheld the suspension of three principal officers of the party, including Nwanyanwu, who are linked to the faction backed by Wike.

Adeoye said the development should serve as an opportunity for reconciliation rather than deepen divisions within the party. He added that unity among leaders such as Makinde and Bala Mohammed would help reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
