Akawor Accuses Fubara of Stalling Development in Oyigbo

Former Ambassador to South Korea and Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Rivers State, Desmond Akawor, has alleged that development in Oyigbo Local Government Area has stalled under Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Akawor made the claim on Monday during a “thank you” visit to Oyigbo by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

He said residents of Oyigbo voted for Governor Fubara with the expectation that development projects initiated under Wike would be sustained, but lamented that no significant progress had been recorded since Wike left office in 2023.

According to him, the only tangible benefit Oyigbo has received under the current administration is the appointment of a commissioner.

Akawor warned that Oyigbo must not be excluded from the utilisation of the N600 billion reportedly in the state treasury, insisting that the local government should receive a fair share of any allocations.

He stressed that the people were not asking for favours but fairness, adding that all Oyigbo stakeholders were united in their demands.

The former ambassador also commended Wike for restoring peace in the area during his tenure as governor, saying his intervention ended repeated disruptions linked to the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

He expressed gratitude for Wike’s contributions to Oyigbo and acknowledged the mobilisation role entrusted to him.
