2027: Labour Party Zones Presidential Ticket to South

The Labour Party has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, ruling out aspirants from the North.

Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Nenadi Usman, announced the decision in Abuja after a consultative meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Usman said the move is a firm policy to guide aspirants ahead of the elections, stressing that only candidates from the South will be considered. She, however, maintained that the party will not impose any candidate, noting that its presidential flagbearer will emerge through a democratic primary process.

She also confirmed that a leadership suit filed against the caretaker committee at a Bayelsa High Court was dismissed for lacking merit, affirming the committee’s legitimacy.

On the party’s upcoming congresses, Usman hinted at a possible postponement to accommodate a growing number of new members, warning that proceeding as scheduled could disenfranchise many.

The party also reported a recent security breach involving its property and has petitioned the police, expressing confidence that those responsible will be brought to justice.
