Court Bars Turaki Faction from PDP Secretariat, Nullifies Ibadan Convention

A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki from accessing the party’s national secretariat, escalating the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, the court also nullified the November 2025 PDP convention held in Ibadan, which produced the Turaki-led executives. The court ruled that the convention violated existing court orders, the Nigerian Constitution, and the party’s constitution, declaring all decisions from the event invalid.

The court further restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the outcome of the convention.

Meanwhile, security agencies were directed to provide protection for the faction aligned with Nyesom Wike, allowing them access to and control of the party’s national headquarters.

The suit was filed by PDP members backed by Wike, who challenged the legality of the Ibadan convention and the leadership that emerged from it.

In a related development, a rival PDP bloc loyal to Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed has taken the dispute to the Supreme Court, seeking a final determination on the legitimacy of the party’s leadership.

The crisis, now before multiple courts, is expected to shape the future leadership and unity of Nigeria’s main opposition party.
