The United Kingdom has announced temporary airspace and road restrictions in Windsor ahead of the state visit of Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, scheduled for next week.
According to Thames Valley Police, the measures are part of a comprehensive security operation coordinated with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other agencies to ensure the safety of dignitaries, spectators, and the general public.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the Joint Operations Unit said the airspace restriction is only one element of a broader security plan for the historic visit.
“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation for the state visit of Nigerian President Tinubu next week, with many measures you will see and others you will not,” Hall said.
He noted that Windsor Castle already has a permanent airspace restriction, but it will be expanded on March 18 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority to enhance security during the visit.
Hall warned that any violation of the restriction would be treated as a criminal offence under the Air Navigation Order and could lead to arrest.
The security deployment will include search teams, mounted police units, roads policing officers, armed units, and neighbourhood policing teams. Authorities will also use Windsor’s extensive CCTV network and protective vehicle barriers to secure the area.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
