FRSC Boss Warns Officers Against Extortion, Harassment of Motorists

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has warned personnel of the agency to stop extorting and harassing motorists while enforcing traffic laws.

Speaking in Umuahia through Corps Commander Paul Ogoegbunam, Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as a decline in professionalism and discipline among some field officers. He said the FRSC had received increasing complaints from the public about misconduct by operatives.

According to him, some officers have engaged in unethical practices, abuse of authority, extortion, and reckless enforcement of traffic rules, actions he said contradict the values of the corps.

Mohammed emphasized that the FRSC is primarily a life-saving institution and not a revenue-generating agency. He warned that any personnel found guilty of extortion, harassment, or abuse of authority would face strict disciplinary action.

He also directed senior officers to strengthen supervision and ensure that personnel maintain professionalism and discipline while carrying out their duties.

The Abia Sector Commander, Ngozi Ezeoma, said the visit by the FRSC leadership was aimed at improving operational efficiency and guiding officers to align with the strategic vision of the Corps Marshal.

She urged personnel to take the sensitization exercise seriously and remain committed to the agency’s mandate of ensuring safer roads across the country.
