INC Urges APC to Stop Fubara’s Impeachment

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership to intervene and protect Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from a looming impeachment by the State House of Assembly.

INC warned that proceeding with the impeachment of Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, would be viewed as a betrayal of the Ijaw people. Speaking on the issue, INC President, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, described the impeachment move as a vendetta and urged the APC to defend Fubara as one of its own.

Okaba criticized the Rivers State lawmakers pushing the impeachment, accusing some of them of lacking integrity and acting under external influence. He expressed disappointment over four lawmakers who initially called for a political solution but later rejoined the impeachment process.

According to him, the impeachment attempt is an example of godfatherism taken too far and poses a threat to democracy, peace, and unity in the state. He warned that the INC would take a position if the impeachment is eventually carried out.

The impeachment process against Governor Fubara and his deputy remains ongoing amid rising political tension in Rivers State.
