Keyamo Steps In to Resolve Air Peace–Oshiomhole Airport Dispute

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stepped in to mediate the ongoing dispute between Air Peace and former Edo State Governor and serving senator, Adams Oshiomhole, following a confrontation at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday.

In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Friday, Keyamo confirmed that he has been in direct contact with both parties since the incident and has instructed aviation agencies to remain neutral while facts are being established.

“I have directed all aviation agencies to exercise restraint and adhere to the principle of hearing all sides before drawing conclusions,” he said.

Amid escalating public exchanges between the parties, the minister called for calm and urged both sides to avoid further accusations or inflammatory statements.

He also ordered a comprehensive investigation, directing relevant agencies to gather all evidence and submit a full report to his office.

“This matter will be handled thoroughly and decisively,” Keyamo stated. “The outcome will help guide future conduct in similar situations.”

The dispute stems from a confrontation between Senator Oshiomhole and Air Peace officials after the senator missed a scheduled flight. Oshiomhole accused airline staff of engaging in racketeering, alleging that he and other passengers—numbering between 20 and 30—were asked to pay an extra ₦109,100 to be rescheduled to a later 8:30 a.m. flight, despite some allegedly arriving before others who were allowed to board.

Air Peace, however, insists Oshiomhole arrived late for the flight and was denied boarding in accordance with company policy.

The incident has sparked public debate over airport procedures and customer treatment by domestic airlines.
