Abia APC Distances Itself from Orji Kalu’s Visit to Governor Alex Otti, Warns Against Opposition Ties

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has distanced itself from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, describing it as a personal affair that does not represent the party’s position.

In a statement released by the APC’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Sterling Urakpa, the party warned its members against engaging in what it called “political fraternisation” with opposition figures, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to take shape.

The party expressed disapproval of Senator Kalu’s public praise of the Labour Party-led administration in Abia, asserting that it contradicts the APC’s critical stance on governance in the state.

“The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has noted the recent visit of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, to Governor Alex Otti in his hometown. We wish to clarify that his visit was entirely personal and does not, in any way, reflect the position or endorsement of the APC in Abia State,” the statement read.

Urakpa reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to reclaiming Abia in 2027 and aligning the state more closely with the policies of the federal government.

He referenced comments made by the State Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, during the May 28 launch of the Renewed Hope Partners in Bende LGA, where concerns were raised about the Labour Party government’s transparency and alleged conflicts of interest.

“The party remains troubled by ongoing governance issues under Dr. Alex Otti’s administration—particularly the lack of transparency and the concealment of project costs and contract details from public scrutiny.”

Urakpa further emphasized that no member of the APC should attempt to justify ties with opposition figures under the guise of mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu, warning against a repeat of the 2023 situation where some members compromised party unity without consequence.

The party urged ward and local government leaders in Kalu’s and Senator Chris Adighije’s constituencies to remain vigilant, safeguard the APC’s interests, and stay focused on the 2027 goal.
