Trump Says Putin Has ‘Gone Absolutely Crazy’ As He Weighs More Sanctions On Russia

Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intensifying military campaign in Ukraine, calling him “absolutely CRAZY” after Moscow carried out its largest aerial assault of the war. Trump also took aim at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of worsening the conflict through inflammatory rhetoric.

“Something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, referencing Putin. “I’ve always said he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a part of it. That may now be obvious — but if he tries, it will be the downfall of Russia!”

Despite his harsh rebuke of Putin, Trump also criticised Zelensky, saying his statements were exacerbating tensions. “He is doing his Country no favours by talking the way he does. Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop,” Trump posted.

Speaking later to reporters in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with him. What the hell happened to him? He’s killing a lot of people. I’m not happy about that.” He hinted that additional sanctions against Russia were being considered in light of the mounting violence.

Neither the Kremlin nor Zelensky’s office responded immediately to Trump’s comments.

Trump’s statements followed a massive overnight aerial offensive by Russia, during which at least 367 drones and missiles were launched at Ukrainian targets — the largest single-day strike since the invasion began. Ukrainian authorities reported at least 12 civilians killed, including three children, in the northern Zhytomyr region.

The attack underscores a broader escalation of the conflict, with Russian forces advancing in eastern Ukraine and both sides increasingly relying on drone warfare. While Trump has repeatedly urged a negotiated settlement to end the war, the situation on the ground continues to deteriorate, and diplomatic efforts have so far failed to halt the bloodshed.
