Labour Party suspends ex-Lagos chair, others over anti-party activities

The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party has announced the suspension of its former state chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, along with Sam Okpala, citing allegations of gross misconduct and violations of the party’s constitution.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the state’s caretaker committee chairman, Rotimi Odunaike, and secretary, Dorcas Omorodion, the party also disclosed the dissolution of all Local Government and Ward Executive Committees across the state.

The caretaker leadership stated that all members of the former state executive committee have been suspended for six months over anti-party activities.

According to the statement:
“The former state Chairman of the party, Pastor Mrs. Dayo Ekong, is hereby suspended for six months for gross misconduct and breach of the constitution of the party by simultaneously holding the positions of state chairman and national financial secretary.”

It further noted:
“All members of the erstwhile state executive committee are suspended for six months for failing to uphold the party’s constitution and engaging in anti-party activities.”

Regarding the local structures, the caretaker chairman added:
“All Local Government and Ward Executive Committees in Lagos State, appointed under the Pastor Dayo Ekong-led executive, are hereby dissolved. Their members are also suspended for six months, effective immediately, for engaging in anti-party conduct.”

The decision marks a significant shake-up within the Lagos Labour Party structure as internal rifts continue to affect the party’s cohesion and operations.
