Chairman of the Dangote Group and Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, Aliko Dangote, has unveiled a five-year development blueprint for the institution, kick-starting the initiative with a N15 billion donation.
Dangote made the announcement following his re-investiture as Chancellor during the university’s 5th combined Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday in Wudil.
According to him, the fund, which will be administered through the Dangote Foundation, will facilitate the construction of additional student hostels, state-of-the-art engineering and computer laboratories with 24-hour internet access, and a modern Senate building.
He further disclosed that the Foundation will offer automatic employment to the best graduating students in his companies across Nigeria.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Yakasai, revealed that over 18,000 students across seven academic sessions were graduating, including 2,950 postgraduate students receiving various degrees and diplomas.
Also speaking at the event, the Visitor to the university and Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all inherited and ongoing state-funded projects within the university.
“We are determined to enhance the university’s growth by completing all the projects initiated by the previous administration,” the governor stated.
During the ceremony, five distinguished Nigerians were honoured with Honorary Doctorate Degrees (Honoris Causa) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society. The honorees include Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Dr. Ahmed Adeniyi Raji (SAN), Prince Arthur Eze, and Alhaji Mustapha Ado Muhammad.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Senator Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the university for the recognition and urged the graduating students to uphold the university’s values and excel as ambassadors wherever they go.
