Abure is APC’s Agent, Arrest Him for Contempt -Labour Party Chieftain

A prominent Labour Party (LP) chieftain in Abia State, Mr. Nwabueze Onwuneme, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government to arrest Mr. Julius Abure for allegedly defying a Supreme Court ruling and to charge him with contempt of court.

Onwuneme argued that Abure, who continues to claim the position of National Chairman of the Labour Party despite a Supreme Court judgement, should have already faced legal consequences for contempt and gross misconduct—if not for alleged backing from powerful elements within the ruling party.

In a press statement, Onwuneme criticized the APC-led administration for turning a blind eye to what he described as a clear violation of the rule of law, accusing it of attempting to stifle opposition voices in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. He claimed that Abure’s continued claim to the party’s leadership, in defiance of a certified court ruling, reflects a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties like the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He further alleged that Abure’s defiance may be emboldened by support from influential individuals within the federal government, describing it as a calculated move to undermine Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Onwuneme warned that such open disregard for judicial authority poses a serious threat to both the country’s democratic framework and the rule of law. He urged the government to demonstrate its commitment to justice by enforcing the Supreme Court’s decision without fear or favour.
