Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have neutralized three armed bandits, dismantled multiple criminal camps, and recovered arms and ammunition during a clearance operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The daring mission, conducted on April 5, 2025, is part of the ongoing Operation Lafiya Jamaa, a military campaign aimed at eliminating criminal elements and restoring peace across Taraba State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni. According to the statement, the troops targeted known bandit hideouts, first clearing the Achalle area before advancing to Chibi.
“Upon reaching Chibi, the troops encountered resistance as the bandits opened fire but fled shortly after sighting the advancing soldiers,” the statement said.
“In the exchange, three bandits were neutralized, and several makeshift camps used by the criminals were destroyed. Troops also recovered two motorcycles, one AK-47 magazine, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.”
The troops further combed the Dutsen Zaki and Achalle axes, areas where over 70 bandit camps have been dismantled in recent operations. Oni noted that no human activity was observed during this latest sweep, signaling the effectiveness of sustained military action.
Commending the troops for their gallantry, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, assured the people of Taraba that criminal elements would find no refuge in the state. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue their lawful activities without fear.
General Uwa also called on the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to support the military’s efforts, stressing that community cooperation is crucial for ensuring lasting peace and security.
