The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the ongoing communal clashes between the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities.
In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Adeoye Adeola, said the suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. The renewed hostilities between Ifon and Ilobu recently escalated to Erin-Osun, resulting in violence, arson, and the destruction of properties.
Adeola stated, “The Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, has ordered the deployment of officers and personnel to the affected areas to restore peace, law, and order, in line with the police’s primary duty of protecting lives and property.”
He added that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would enforce the 24-hour curfew imposed by Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to prevent further bloodshed and chaos.
“So far, three suspects have been arrested for violating the curfew and were found in possession of a Dane gun. A thorough investigation is underway, and they will be charged to court for prosecution accordingly,” Adeola said.
The command assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will identify and apprehend all perpetrators and their sponsors to ensure justice is served.
