MOUAUWA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike Women Association (MOUAUWA), on the 18th of March, held its International Women’s Day celebration themed “Accelerate Action in promoting work-family-social life balance for women.”

The event which took place at the Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, (MOUAU) featured reputable personalities and awardees who have shown distinct service to the association and women empowerment in the society.

Speaking at the event, The President of MOUAUWA, DR Mrs Nkechinyere Nkem Iwe, emphasized the need for women to join hands in elevating one another thereby creating a sense of strength and a path to achieve greater feats.

According to the President, the world is looking at accelerating actions to achieve Gender equality hence why MOUAUWA has chosen to run with the sub-theme: “Accelerate Action in promoting work-family-social life balance for women.”

Highlighting projects embarked on by the association, DR Mrs Nkechinyere Nkem Iwe stated: “As mothers of the university, we identify an area of need every year and use the occasion of our International Women’s Day Celebration to address the need by way of making it a project focus and raising funds to tackle it.

Last year, our focus was to renovate our Day-Care Centre, which was built about 14 years ago.

I am happy to announce to you that with your support, the project was realised and presented during our August outing last year. We now have a befitting Day Care Centre.” Noting that every year, the association pinpoints a project to carry out for the benefit of the university community and the society at large.

Awardees at the event :

1. Vice President of MOUAUWA and the University Registrar, Dr Nkeiruka Mbanasor.
2. Engr Theophilus Chinedu Nweke of MOUAU Portal for consistently supporting MOUAUWA projects.
3. Prof. Ahiaoma Ibegwam, a worthy ambassador of MOUAU.
4. Engr R. N. Onyeaso, the special adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Projects for being outstandingly participatory in our programmes.
5. Dr. Mrs Bertha Otunta, immediate past President of MOUAUWA.
6. Chairman of the occasion, Dr Bashir Ogungbangbe
7. Mother of the Day, Pastor (Mrs) Ijeoma Okoroafor

The colorful event had in attendance, friends, well wishers and special guests, to name but a few; University Management, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, Chairman of MOUAU Governing Council, Comrade Fidelis Edeh, Royal Mothers ( ndi Ugoeze) and other women groups from our neighbouring host communities.

Also in attendance were, the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Permanent Secretaries for Ministries of Health and Women Affairs.
