Bandits abduct 7 in Niger

Seven persons, including a housewife, were abducted by bandits during a nighttime attack in Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area in Niger State.

According to residents, the abduction occurred on Sunday night in houses located on the outskirts of the town, affecting areas such as Talba Estate, Rafin Karma, Dadin Kowa, Gangaren-Sagi, and the Kontagora bypass.

Among the victims was a woman whose husband managed to escape, though her whereabouts remain unknown. A resident, speaking anonymously, decried the relentless bandit attacks in the area, saying, “Bandits continue to terrorize Kontagora, particularly in neighborhoods like Talba Estate, Rafin Karma, Dadin Kowa, Gangaren-Sagi, and the Kontagora bypass.”

Similarly, residents of Farin-Shinge voiced concerns over recurring attacks, urging security agencies and the Niger State government to take immediate action.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, assured that the incident would be investigated but had yet to provide further details at the time of this report.
